Scope

The training of modern engineers can no longer rely simply on techniques and must include aspects related to sustainable developement. We cannot neglect the environment impact of the technological development and we need to foster a responsible growth. This approach implies a pluridisciplinaire training, which must include social-economical and geo-political facets.

We live in a time that does not allow a disproportionate utilization of non-renewable energy. We need to develop new energy sources and methods as well as create new materials to general and store energy. And do this while minimizing the use of pollution-generatin toxic and hazardous products, without forgeting the after-life of these materials. This approach is based on a few fundamental pillars: materials science and more broadly chemistry; the physics behind the new technologies; and the engineering response to the large-scale implementation of these materials.

Upon this reality, three Brazilian universities - UFSCar, UFMG, and PUC-Rio - and five schools of the ParisTech group - Arts et Métiers, Chimie ParisTech, ESPCI Paris-PSL, Institut d'Optique, and Mines Paris - have a joint project to train engineers.

The scope of this workshop is to bring together scientists, from these institutions, working in the broad field of energy and materials. In order to minimize its carbon-footprint, this workshop will take place in a remote half-day format. Attendance is free, but interested people should register.
