From colloidal nanocrystals to defects in diamond : fluorescent nanoparticles for biology, magnetometry and quantum information

Piernicola Spinicelli
LPEM, ESPCI

In this talk I will present the optical properties of different types of fluorescent artificial molecules and few applications.

I will start presenting semi-conductor colloidal nanocrystals. In particular I will focus on the possibility to control the quantum behavior of these particles, going from quantum-dot like to quantum-well like emitter.

I will then introduce the defects in diamond and their properties. Finally I will show how to use them as both quantum bits and magnetic probes.
