High-field magneto-transport in topological insulators

Steffen Wiedmann
High Field Magnet Laboratory (HFML), Radboud University Nijmegen

In my talk I will present an overview of electrical and thermal transport measurements on topological insulators and demonstrate that high magnetic fields are an ideal tool to probe this new state of matter. I will discuss in particular magneto-transport and thermopower on the 3D topological insulator strained HgTe that is so far the only material that exhibits ambipolar surface quantum Hall effect when the Fermi energy is tuned through the bulk band gap. Both transport and thermopower experiments indicate that transport is governed only by surface states.

I will also briefly introduce HFML and the experimental techniques that are available for researchers from all over the world.
